Training and Development
At Carnival Cruise Lines we know that to remain an attractive employer in the constantly expanding travel industry, we must go beyond offering competitive wages and benefits – we must provide our employees with safe work environment, opportunities for training and advancement and recognition for individual achievements and contributions.
Earn, Learn and Prosper!
We also know that our success is inextricably tied to the development and growth of members of Team Carnival. This is why Carnival Cruise Lines strives to provide our employees with personal and professional development opportunities during their careers. Carnival Cruise Lines is committed to quality, service, and fun and one of the best ways to ensure these goals are achieved is through the ongoing education and training of our team.
Training Takes Center Stage
Training is a priority at Carnival – and a massive task. In 1995, the company intensified its efforts by creating the award-winning Corporate Training Department which is responsible for conducting in-house training for 43,000 shipboard and shoreside employees. Carnival has earned its leadership position through an unmatched combination of superior products and top-notch service delivered by a highly motivated and well-trained workforce.
Adhering to the principle that the amount of learning is directly proportional to the amount of fun team members have during the learning process, at Carnival learning and fun go hand in hand. We pride ourselves on developing programs that are both relevant and fun.
Training is provided in structured courses such as our Carnival Colleges or as individual, self-paced study in our on-board crew training centers. Team members participate in facilitator-led classes as well as work individually at their own pace.
Crew Training Centers
Every Carnival ship has a Crew Training Center, a state-of-the art learning facility, complete with student computers and over 1,200 learning resources including computer-based language resources, e-learning courses, books, language audio resources, computer courses and much more. Students may learn in the training centers or check out resources out and learn in the comfort of their cabins.
In tandem with the centers, every vessel has two qualified full time shipboard trainers who are responsible for the training and development of our team members and managing the Crew Training Centers. The on board trainers are certified to provide a wide range of useful courses, including new hire orientation, safety training, English for Speakers of Other Languages, management training and specialized departmental training.
Team Carnival Orientation
One of our important training initiatives on board is our Team Carnival Orientation program, which provides newly hired team members a thorough overview of shipboard life to ensure the first days on board is less overwhelming. In fact from the moment your step on board as a new team member, there is someone on hand to show you around, answer all your questions and help you adjust to your new surroundings.
Entry-level positions, officers, staff and managers are all provided a range of training courses throughout their career to develop and build on the skills necessary for their jobs and potential future promotion.
Carnival Colleges
We also conduct four-week intense training programs, known as Carnival College, which include both classroom and practical training. For all classes, printed information including handouts and exams are in English so it is necessary that all trainees are able to read and write in English to successfully complete any college. Don’t worry though, there are full-time instructors available to assist you.
At present, the following colleges are hosted on Carnival vessels: Bar College, Culinary College, Housekeeping College, Photo College, and Guest Services College.
For managers there is the Carnival College of Management, an in-house training program dedicated to development of all levels of management.
All programs and courses employ a variety of training and delivery methods to meet the needs of their diverse audience, affording the entire shipboard team advanced learning opportunities in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
